Abstract
In recent years, power converters are increasingly moving towards high-efficiency, high-power-density and miniaturization. And the application of the wide-bandgap power semiconductor devices has further improved the operating frequency and efficiency of the power converter. PCB-based planar inductors can help to further reduce the volume of the power converters. But the increase of operating frequency makes the low AC loss design of passive components at high frequency has become a bottleneck. By changing the path of leakage flux, a method of adding a low-permeability magnetic ring to the magnetic core is proposed to reduce the increase in winding AC loss caused by the edge effect of the magnetic core. 3-D FEA simulations have been carried out and the results show that the AC resistance of the planar inductor wingdings can be significantly reduced by 19.89%.
